Should pets be kept inside or outside?

If you are looking for a new pet, then you are probably wondering whether the pet should be an outdoor pet or indoor pet. This is a big question, but it is also one that will impact your relationship with your pet for years to come. Keeping pets inside can cause a lot of mess and added stress, but keeping them outside can result in you getting to spend less time with them. Here are some upsides and downsides to both, so that you can compare and do some thinking about where to keep your next pet.

Outside.

Keeping pets outdoors will result in a cleaner house, easier training (no house training needed), and a more peaceful living atmosphere. Also, pets who stay outside are usually a bit more independent. It is easier to leave them overnight if you have to make a business trip, especially if they have a good sized kennel or pen to stay in. The downside, however, is that if your pets stay outside, you will get to spend less time with them. Some people get very close to their pets when they stay indoors, and you can miss out on this when you keep your pets outdoors.

Indoors.

Keeping your pets indoors can allow you to spend a lot more time with them. They are also usually safer inside, since they are not exposed to all of the elements of outdoor weather. However, keeping your pets indoors poses some problems, mostly due to hair and scent. If you keep dogs or cats inside, then you can pretty much guarantee that there will be hair on the furniture. You can also guarantee that your house will smell like a dog or cat, at least to some degree. If you work hard to mask the scent then you can, but it takes some effort.
