It happens all the time. You get ready for bed and before you know it, your dog has beat you to the punch. Or you crawl in and here comes your puppy, jumping up and getting comfortable at the foot of your bed. So you look him in the eye and announce that you are getting him his own bed.
Your dog will soon make the dog bed you get him his very own. He will turn it into the perfect place to rest his weary bones and sleep, which is something canines love to do. Knowing this, you have a few things of your own to decide. The first being, where will your beloved dog's favorite bed be placed? Does he like sleeping on your bed? Then maybe you should put it in your room. Is his favorite place to sleep the couch? Then maybe the living room. Does he love to sleep close to your chair as you work or play at your computer? Then place the dog bed in your office or study.
How big is your dog? How much more growing room does he have? Get a bed that will fit the mature dog he will grow to be if he is still a puppy. Spoil him with a little padding. If he has a doghouse or a room in the house that he thinks of as his own, then put the dog bed in there. Otherwise, go with the suggestions stated above.
Dogs are like humans in that they want to be comfortable, too. Just as we like potpourri or scented candles, using a type of dog bed that has filler that repels fleas will make your dog more comfortable and less likely to be stressing over fleas and itching like crazy. (It is also a better bet in the long run for your home as it will not be filled with fleas.)
If your dog is already getting on in years, then go for a dog bed that will cater to his elderly and possibly arthritic bones. This will allow your pet to have a comfortable bed that allows him to sleep better which is hard for canines and humans alike if they are old, ill, arthritic or uncomfortable.
You may decide to choose a fancy, designer dog bed that complements your house and vice versa. This is perfectly fine. What is important in the long run is making sure that your dog has a bed that is comfortable and pleasant for him to enjoy. Knowing this, make sure that your dog is happy with the bed you have bought for him. If he shows no interest in it, replace it immediately. The sooner you get the right bed for him, the happier he will be. A happy dog can make for a happy home, and vice versa.
